About the role

You will build and maintain the embedded software running on our autopilot hardware — the layer responsible for holding the aircraft when GPS is denied, the link is lost, or a motor fails mid-mission.

Our aircraft fly for defence, utility, and relief operators. Firmware here is safety-critical, and it is reviewed and tested like it.

What you will do

  • Develop real-time firmware for flight-critical subsystems on ARM Cortex-M targets.
  • Implement and verify sensor fusion, redundancy management, and failsafe behaviour.
  • Build the HIL rigs and automated tests that catch regressions before they reach an airframe.
  • Debug at the hardware boundary — logic analyser, oscilloscope, and flight logs.
  • Support integration and flight test alongside the controls and operations teams.

What we are looking for

  • Degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Three or more years writing embedded C or C++ for real-time systems.
  • Working knowledge of RTOS concepts, interrupt latency, and memory-constrained design.
  • Experience with sensor interfaces — IMU, GNSS, barometer, magnetometer — over I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Comfort reading schematics and debugging on real hardware.

Nice to have

  • Prior UAV or avionics work.
  • Experience with DO-178C or a comparable assurance process.
  • Contributions to an open-source autopilot project.
